MAKING EVERYDAY EARTH DAY
With April 22nd being Earth Day, it bring up the question what can I be doing to make a contribution to a healthier planet? The term 'Going Green' can be taking small daily steps to reduce pollution: toxins in the home, amount of garbage you throw out, recycling and driving less.
RECYCLE EVERYTHING: a compost reduces your wet garbage and creates a wonderful bed of future nutrients and natural fertilizer for your garden. All cardboard including cereal, kleenax and all packaging boxes, plastic containers, paper (get a shredder), cans, glass, bottles, newspapers - your weekly garbage can be cut in half. Imagine the reduction of garbage in our landfills if we all did this?
SWITCH BRANDS TO NON-TOXIC AND BIODEGRADABLE HOUSEHOLD CLEANERS:
Did you know you could wash your windows with a spray bottle filled with water and only 2 drops of an organic cleaner called Basic H (made by Shaklee and recommended by Oprah) and get the same results as using windex? No toxins left behind in your air and recycle the same bottle by re-filling. Concentrated laundry cleaners can reduce the number of bottles you throw out or recycle by 80%.
PICK UP GARBAGE: Make it a habit to pick up garbage everytime you see it and teach your children to do the same. Volunteer to do a neighbourhood clean-up.
PLANT TREES AND SHRUBS: Many communities have Community in Bloom projects to help beautify parks and school grounds.
We can all make a difference in the health of our planet by making simple daily choices to 'go green'. Watch for more information on an outdoor ECO WELLNESS FAIR in Red Deer, Sunday, June 14th 1-4 at Bower Ponds. Various displays of earth-friendly products and services, natural healthing methods, fitness demos and a 5km run/walk
